Switching to an electric car has never been easier. There are lots of initiatives to help you switch to an electric care, including on the West of England. For example, there is a network of charge points
, grants available for charging points and electric vehicle test drives on offer
. This page will give you all the information you need to get started.
The government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) offers grants to install charging points at residential properties. The OLEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme
provides up to 75% of the cost of a charging point at a domestic property. You will need a driveway or off-street parking to apply for this grant. To apply for this grant, please visit the Office for Low Emission Vehicles website
. Please note that the on-street grant referred to on this page is not currently available in Bristol.
Electric Nation also provides charging points to a limited number of households, to try to evaluate the effect of electric vehicles on the power grid. If you join the scheme, they cover the cost of installation. You can check if you’re eligible on Electric Nation’s website.
The government offers up to £4,500 off the price of a new electric car, and up to £8,000 off the price of a new electric van. More information about these grants, which are applied at point of sale, can be found on the government’s website.
